SUBMISSIONS

All work submitted to the Shanghai Student Film Festival (S2F2) should FOLLOW THE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES LISTED BELOW.  It is VERY important that students follow these guidelines.  Failure to follow the guidelines will result in disqualification from the festival.

1.  ALL WORK MUST BE SUBMITTED IN THE PROPER FORMAT. The work should be uncompressed and submitted to the festival as a data file on either a hard drive or a DVD.  A DATA FILE is NOT a complete DVD.  It is a file that is to be read on a computer, not a television.  The data file MUST BE A QUICKTIME OR AVI MOVIE.  Please ensure that the last part of the file name (for instance, BEETLEJUICE.AVI) is either .AVI, .M4V, or .MOV.  If you follow these rules, we won’t have any problems with file conversion or opening up your movies on our computers for judging.

2.  ALL WORK MUST BE YOUR OWN. This includes music.  S2F2 is making a major push to ensure that no copyrighted material is illegally included on any of the work submitted, so to ensure that your entry has the best chance, please make sure that your work is your own.  You may love that new Lil’ Wayne song, but the odds that Mr. Wayne agreed to let you use it for your movie are quite small, so to avoid lawsuits, make sure that whatever work you use is your own.

If you’re stumped for material, there are MANY sites out there to help with acquiring music for free.  Look for music with a Creative Commons license, or check out any of the following websites:

NOTE:  You CAN use copyrighted material for music videos.  However, the use of these materials will disqualify you from winning any of the main prizes (you will, however, be allowed to collect a prize for technical achievement).

3.  ALL WORK MUST BE SUBMITTED BY GIVEN DEADLINES.

4.  OVERSEAS SUBMISSIONS – Here at S2F2, we ALWAYS look forward to entries from overseas.  One difficulty we have is receiving the entires all the way over here in China, due to various restrictions and other issues.  Thus, we have a solution…

  • Fill out an electronic entry form on our website.
  • Use a service that stores and shares large files.  We recommend using rapidshare.com, because we know that works around certain firewalls.  Using any other site may cause problems.
  • Upload your movie to rapidshare (it’s free!).  Once your movie is uploaded, a link to download your movie will appear.  Copy that link.
  • Email us with a) the link to your movie, and b) the electronic entry form.
  • We’ll give you a confirmation email once we have received your film.  If there are any further problems, we’ll definitely let you know.

Please feel free to ask if you have any further questions regarding the topic of overseas entries.  Questions can be sent to rgirdner@scischina.org.
